Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox Cosmetic is an injectable wrinkle treatment made from a minute amount of a highly purified form of botulinum toxin.

Emily uses Botox to eliminate pesky, aging wrinkles such as:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead wrinkles

Botox smooths out the moderate to severe wrinkles in your skin for up to four months at a time.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a neuromodulator, so it blocks the signals that your nerves send to your muscles when you try to make an extreme expression.

Botox only works on dynamic muscles, which are the muscles that force your skin into folds and creases when you squint, frown, or raise your eyebrows. Once Botox takes effect, your dynamic muscles calm down so that your skin relaxes and smooths out, too.

Can I still make expressions with Botox?

Some women and men are reluctant to get Botox treatments because they’re afraid they’ll wind up with a “frozen face,” like you sometimes see on aging celebrities.

However, Emily never gives you so much Botox that it limits your normal expressions. While you won’t be able to make extreme expressions, you’ll be able to laugh, smile, and look surprised whenever you need.

When should I start getting Botox?

If you already have mild to severe lines and creases around your eyes and forehead, Botox smooths them out and stops your dynamic muscles from reinforcing them.

However, even if you don’t have wrinkles yet, you can “prejuvenate” with regular Botox treatments that stop wrinkles from forming in the first place.

You must be at least 18 years old to receive Botox, but there’s no upper age limit, as long as you’re healthy.

How long does it take for Botox to work?

Your Botox treatment only takes a few minutes. The neuromodulator needs to settle into your muscles, so you may not notice the effects for a few days or even up to two weeks.

Emily schedules and times your Botox treatments so that you don’t have to worry about your wrinkles coming back between sessions.
