SkinPen collagen induction therapy is a simple, minimally invasive therapeutic treatment that rejuvenates and stimulates your collagen and elastin which results in firm radiant skin.
This treatment offers fairly immediate results as your skin will be plump and luminous. However, optimal results usually take 4 to 6 treatments, depending on your skincare needs and goals.
Microneedling is effective for texture and tone; reduces acne scarring, helps the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as pigment issues. Add PRP to upgrade the treatment and results. Neck and decolletage can also be treated. Skincare for home use is provided.
Microneedling FAQ
WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin. This virtually painless, in-office procedure stimulates your natural collagen and elastin production to improve skin’s texture, strength, and appearance. The aesthetician at Tidewater Dermatology uses a tool containing tiny needles to penetrate your skin’s surface.
HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?
Microneedling works by stimulating your body’s healing ability while pushing targeted serums deep into your skin to optimize their effectiveness. By stimulating collagen growth with microneedling, you can also reverse sun damage and discoloration, including the hyperpigmentation that comes with melasma.
Our Master Esthetician will apply a serum of choice (depending on the condition the patient would like to address) to the treatment areas before using the handheld pen. As the pen moves over your skin, the serum is pushed into your skin to improve absorption and maximize its effect.
The device makes tiny punctures in your skin that heal almost immediately but trigger your body’s natural healing response, flooding your skin with oxygen and nutrients to repair and build new cells including capillaries and collagen. The collagen plumps your skin from within and the fresh capillaries keep your skin and subdermal tissue nourished and healthy.
Lastly, the esthetician will apply a growth serum.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE CARE OF THE TREATMENT AREA AFTERWARD?
Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure that typically requires no time for recovery. Your skin may be slightly pink after your treatment, but this usually subsides quickly. You will want to avoid the sun and vigorous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment. Individual results and recovery times may vary. You will be provided after-treatment instructions for your convenience.
