Gene May Increase Melanoma Risk, Regardless of UV Radiation Exposure.


HealthDay (4/6, Dotinga) reports that research published online in JAMA Dermatology suggests “genetics could play a role in the development of melanoma even if people don’t get a lot of sunburns.”
The Cancer Network (4/6, Lawrence) reports that investigators found that individuals “who are carriers of two variants of melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), a gene that regulates pigmentation, were at increased risk for melanoma regardless of previous UV radiation exposure.” The Daily Mail (4/6, Davies) also covers the story.
